The Princess Birthday Ball

The huge, white tent sprawls on the lawn beside the lake. It has been transfigured there for a very special occasion. A stone walkway leads from the bar to the tent - the pavements are wide enough that ladies' dresses won't trail on the ground as they make their way to the entrance. Over the draped curtains of the entrance way is a large banner which reads "Happy 7th Birthday, Ingress".

Once inside, the honored guests will be in the midst of an enchanted ballroom. There are balloons drifting in bunches from the circular tables lining the sides of the large dance floor. Floating candlabras glow with gentle light from above. There are trees in large ornamental pots interspersed throughout sparkling with fairy lights from real fairies.

One long banquet table is positioned on along the side of the ballroom - there are treats of all description. Little finger sandwiches, chopped up fruit, cookies, cheese and crackers, and other child-friendly h'ors douerves are presented to make sure the dancers are sustained throughout the the party. There are large bowls of ice cream (kept cold with magic)and sundae fixings. Punch bowls of sherbet-flavored drinks await ladling into crystal goblets. But most impressive is the large birthday cake with blue, purple, and pink icing roses festooning it.

Ingress is busy greeting her guests in her gown - a birthday gift from Amy and Susan - but soon she'll be dancing to the music provided by the overlarge Gramophone in the corner, which is playing a wide array of dancing music from waltz standards to court music to pop hits of the 20th century.

Tom, who's pretty tired from the magical effort required to pull this off, is in the background making sure his little girl is having a perfect party, and Princess Amy is helping Ingress in her hostess duties.

"I do, I do! Can Megwyn come, too?"

She smiles back at Megwyn who is standing in the background in her finest bridle (bitless, of course) of plaited blue leather.

Nymphadora hugs her back tightly, giving Ingress a little twirl, and kisses her round cheek. "I could only hope to be as pretty as you. Good party so far?"

"Oh, it's really good. Everyone's all dressed up, and soon we'll dance and there's cake and ice cream and cookies!"

"Naturally!" Alanna smiles and inclines her head to Megwyn. "Stefan will take good care of her, and we can take her to see the royal forest."

"Well, of course one must have both. It wouldn't really be a ball without that sort of thing."

'Dora casts a speculative eye on Ingress.

"Present now, or present later?"

Like she even has to ask.

"Then we shall go."

She beams at the scroll. "Thanks, Alanna."

"Present now! Oh, oh wait."

Ingress curtseys deeply.

"Welcome to my party, my lady."

"You are most welcome."

A quick glance around, and Alanna leans down to kiss Ingress' forehead.

"I shall leave you be for the moment. You have many people anxious to speak with you." She grins, gesturing to the crowd. "Perhaps later we can show everyone that dance I taught you last year."

She gives her another hug. "I've been practicing it so we have to. See you later, Alanna!"

"Farewell, lass."

Alanna melts back into the crowd, intent on finding cake.

"And I am most honoured by the invitation, Your Highness."

Eyes twinkling, 'Dora curtseys as well (though not nearly so nicely as Ingress).

"Now, with that business out of the way, here we are."

She holds out a brightly-coloured package; it contains the newest Weird Sisters album (just released!) and a Kirley McCormack poster autographed by the man himself.

"I know a guy who knows a guy," she explains, grinning. "He got Kirley to autograph that for his biggest fan in London Below. Anyway I thought that was appropriate for a Big Girl Bedroom."

Tonks got one for herself, too, but don't tell Bernard. He'd pull something laughing.

"Wow! Weird Sisters! COOL, 'Dora!" Ingress says, staring at the autograph. She's still a little young to truly appreciate the Weird Sisters and Kirley, but she gets the whole Big Girl part.

Plus Kirley is awfully cute in a 'drive-Tom-insane' way.

"And I wanna make a girly-date with you, too," she adds, grin widening. "For toe-painting and movie-watching and cookie-baking. Sound good?"

'Dora bends down again to hug Ingress tightly.

Snow and Millie curtsey back, and Wade bows. Wade's been practicing keeping around floor level, lately.

Millie and Wade are dressed much like a prince and princess would be back in Snow's kingdom in the Homelands -- something like you might see in the old-fashioned storybooks, with lace and dark velvet. Millie has a tiara, but Wade put up enough of a fight not to have to wear his crown. Snow has opted for a fancy yet less-than-entirely-authentic dress, as she has become very appreciative of modern fashion and the way it allows you to actualy move and breathe.

"We're glad to be here, Ingress. Happy birthday -- the party looks wonderful."

"Your dress is pretty, Snow." She bends over to talk to Millie and Wade. "You guys look very nice and fancy, too."

Standing back up, she addresses Snow again. "We're going to have dancing, too. And cake!"
