The Princess Birthday Ball

The huge, white tent sprawls on the lawn beside the lake. It has been transfigured there for a very special occasion. A stone walkway leads from the bar to the tent - the pavements are wide enough that ladies' dresses won't trail on the ground as they make their way to the entrance. Over the draped curtains of the entrance way is a large banner which reads "Happy 7th Birthday, Ingress".

Once inside, the honored guests will be in the midst of an enchanted ballroom. There are balloons drifting in bunches from the circular tables lining the sides of the large dance floor. Floating candlabras glow with gentle light from above. There are trees in large ornamental pots interspersed throughout sparkling with fairy lights from real fairies.

One long banquet table is positioned on along the side of the ballroom - there are treats of all description. Little finger sandwiches, chopped up fruit, cookies, cheese and crackers, and other child-friendly h'ors douerves are presented to make sure the dancers are sustained throughout the the party. There are large bowls of ice cream (kept cold with magic)and sundae fixings. Punch bowls of sherbet-flavored drinks await ladling into crystal goblets. But most impressive is the large birthday cake with blue, purple, and pink icing roses festooning it.

Ingress is busy greeting her guests in her gown - a birthday gift from Amy and Susan - but soon she'll be dancing to the music provided by the overlarge Gramophone in the corner, which is playing a wide array of dancing music from waltz standards to court music to pop hits of the 20th century.

Tom, who's pretty tired from the magical effort required to pull this off, is in the background making sure his little girl is having a perfect party, and Princess Amy is helping Ingress in her hostess duties.

Ingress waves happily at every guest. Everyone looks so nice and everyone's smiling, and this is the best day ever!

Snow approaches Ingress, followed by a grinning Millie and Wade. All three are dressed for the occasion, and Snow carries a large, nicely wrapped present for the birthday girl.

It amuses Alanna that of all the people she has tried to think of gifts for, the idea for Ingress' comes the most easily. She has been waiting for this moment since her young friend mentioned it several weeks ago.

With a wide smile, she stops directly before Ingress and curtsies deeply - without wobbling, even! She's been practicing.

There's a parcel tucked under her arm.

"Happy birthday, Princess Ingress!"

Arithon pulled out all the stops.

No, really. All the stops. He's in tunic, and hose, with jewelry everywhere. He's even traded his boots for a pair of dancing shoes from his when and where.

To make matters perfect? He's wearing his crown. Not something that he does every day, or month. Heck, he goes years without putting it on, but for Ingress? Its on.

"Wotcher, milady!" calls Tonks happily, her brightly-coloured dress swirling around her legs. "Aren't you looking smashing this afternoon."

Of course, princely garments aren't that hard for the semi-wealthly Malfoy. Especially since he now had some income. Martin was perched on his shoulder. Draco smiled at the girl, and there was also a specially wrapped present for the birthday girl.

Sansa passes by Ingress, a small present in one hand, looking around for someone. Her hair falls in loose ringlets, her gown is a dark blue, with ivory lace at her throat and her long sleeves. It doesn't take much for Sansa to pull off the princess look.

Sansa looks from left to right and finally addresses the girl.

"Excuse me, my lady, have you seen one Ingress of Londonbelow?"

Mary doesn't really do clothes, or dancing, or princesses. And if Colin were to see her wearing a tiara in public, he would never let her hear the end of it.

*Meg's gown is probably somewhat less comfortable than Ingress', due to various unpleasantnesses such as corsets and stays.

It is very elegant, though.

She beams at Ingress, when he sees her, and keeps the wrapped package firmly behind her back.*

As a rule, Salazar Slytherin does not attend parties in honor of (or really, attended by) small children.

Then again, he's Slytherin, so what patience does he have for rules?

His satin over-robe (dark green) is clasped at the throat by a snake of tarnished sterling silver and his hood is lined with silver satin. His boots, long belt and the detailing on his dress robe are made of brown snake skin. He stops to pull off his black leather gloves, placing them in a deep pocket of his velvet emerald green dress robes (with high collar and black buttons) and taps the presents again with his wand to levitate them and allow them to float alongside him as he walks.

He carefully studies each small person to discern for himself who Ingress is.

The Tams enter: Simon, River, and Kaylee. Simon looks entirely natural in his formal suit; Kaylee's not anywhere near as used to fancy outfits, but her smile makes up for it. River's dress is only the nicest of her everyday dresses, but she's wearing shoes (which is a significant concession, really) and, to mark the occasion, carrying an exceedingly sparkly scepter.

Simon and Kaylee are both carrying wrapped boxes.

The little 'princess's birthday ball is to be graced by two queens, approaching in a manner as regal as she could wish for.

Jadis is clad in her softest gown, a delicate confection of ice crystals gracing her hair, frostlets wound up her bare arms. She's carrying a perfectly enticing parcel, wrapped in a paper that seems to have been spun out of moonlight and shadows, for all that it is as tangible as the ground or the tent or the guests at the Ball.

Cora is wearing her finest dress— long and simple, in dark green — though it is not as fine as some of the other guests’. She is carrying a small, envelope-sized package.

The extravagance of the tent daunts her slightly before she spots Ingress and beams, curtseying deeply. “Your Highness, my name is Cora--thank you for the most gracious invitation to your birthday ball.”

Logan certainly does look nice. He's got on a snazzy suit and a crown that would scream arrogance if it had a voice. It's large, red and very shiny.

"Happy Birthday, Ingress," he says. "I'm not sure if you remember me, but I looked like a monster the last time we met. I had a squirrel's tail."

He refuses to mention its pinkness.

It's been awhile since Mal's had the opportunity to go to a fancy party that didn't make him paranoid from the start.

That, and as soon as Inara heard about the theme, she had practically forced Mal to go, confiscating his suspenders and making him shine his non-work boots to wear.

Sallie approves, and showed this by whistling at Mal in his suitjacket as he walked through the bar door. Sallie, in a long skirt and comfortable blouse, has her own nod to dressing up with a silver-blue shimmering stole around her shoulders.

The pair are arm-in-arm, smiling at Ingress.

Perry waves cheerfully back as he enters, one hand behind his back and looking rather pleased with himself.

It's clear that he has attempted to look nice for the party--though there is a definite lack of ermine.

Caspian, resplendent in Narnian robes and circlet (though his hair, which wants cutting, is still blown rather every which way) smiles at her as he makes his way over. Taking her hand (his other is holding a small box), he bows over it, cheerfully.

"Thank you for your invitation, Princess," he says, politely, and winks at her. "Happy birthday, little maid!"

Cimorene wanders in wearing a long green dress with gold trim. She so rarely has occasion to wear her best crown these days, but today is a celebration well worth it. Heck, she even wore her hair down.

She has never actually met Ingress before, but there's no mistaking who the birthday girl is today. She walks over to the little girl with a huge smile.

"You must be Ingress," she says warmly, "My name is Cimorene, and Amy has told me so much about you. Happy Birthday, your highness," she says with a grin, dropping a curtsey. It is, in fact, the exact curtsey one princess would make to another princess, not that she thinks Ingress will necessarily know the difference.

Despite the events of the previous evening, Moiraine has chosen to attend Ingress's ball, at least for a brief time.

Her words to Ace had been true, of course: she will not allow herself to despair. She will not give the Dark that satisfaction, that victory.

And so, when she dresses for the party, her choice of gown is as deliberate and calculated as if she had been choosing armor. It is a reminder, for another's sake, and for her own as well-- and better far than the white of mourning.

Thus, those who know the Aes Sedai may be very surprised to see her in a pink frothy confection of a gown, but her manner is perfectly serene as she glides toward Ingress, a wrapped gift in her hands.

"Good evening, Ingress. Are you having a lovely ball, I may hope?"

Dairine and Roshaun arrive together, Roshaun dressed in the best Wellakhit clothes - overjacket, gauntlets, tunic, boots, all in metallic shades, and a matching fillet binding his hair back.

"I can't believe you got me into this stuff again..." she grumbles, only half meaning it. She's in a dress of a soft, thin material. It's in green, the circlet around her throat accentuated by the color of her dress and the bright red of her hair. Usually a little brassy, she's tamed it somewhat (only somewhat, mind, as she keeps tucking bits away behind her ear).

"And I'm not a princess."

Amy is around, busy in auxiliary hostess mode -- making sure everyone is comfortable and happy, checking in with Tom and Ingress, changing records on a giant Gramophone so that there's always something playing for the dancers. (Tom showed her how to work the Gramophone this afternoon and she finds it one of the most delightful things she's ever encountered.)

Feel free to catch her at any of her tasks, or between them. She'd no doubt love to say hello.

Logan looks nice, doesn't he? The arrogant crown is perched on his head, and he really does look pretty good in it. "Like it? I have to say, it's pretty much the most arrogant thing I've ever worn. I'm not sure I can live up to it, sadly."
