Slumber Birthday Party

The tea party room in the House of Arch has been re-arranged. The chests of dress-up clothes are still there, but the large table is gone. In its place are comfy, overstuffed chairs, a long sofa, and several cushions and bean bags scattered about. There is a small table loaded with snacks like crisps, dips, cupcakes, candy, and soda. There's also a veggie tray and cheese and crackers for all of those over age eight.

An old model TV hooked up to VCR is set up with several video cassettes of movies such as The Aristocats, Sleeping Beauty, Shirley Temple classics, and other fun viewing choices.

Tom and Door have been busy escorting guests into the House, if they didn't already have access on their own, and the birthday girl greets them with squeeful happiness. Megwyn is already there, standing by a basket of fresh hay and apples. Even Companions need treats.

She is wearing pajamas with unicorns on them with a fluffy yellow robe on over. She is very excited and feeling very grown up. She's going to stay up all night.

"I'm quite glad to hear that, anc congratualtions to you and to Adadm. Though I tell you, Alanna, I can't imagine having three at once. Having the one is occasionally still completely overwhelming."

Amy looks over at Susan with a smile.

"And the second one's on the way now, too."

She can't imagine who would want to be trapped in a mirror, but even at eight, Ingress knows it takes all kinds.

"I met someone who could change the color of her nails," Mary offers, not to be left out.

"Only she did it by magic. She was a witch."

"Megwyn and I will fight the bad guys and the monsters. I know lots of sword fighting already."

Marian thought for a moment to say she was awfully young for that, but Milliways was different and she was different in her own world where she was supposed to believe it herself, so she didn't. She just smiled.

"I think that sounds fun, but awfully dangerous. The both of you should study hard so as to be in the least danger while you are out saving the worlds."

Not terribly convinced, Alanna watches her for a moment before linking her arm through Marian's and reaching for another cupcake.

"Here. You have to catch up. We can't leave them all for the children, or they will rot their teeth. It's our moral responsibility."

"That quite sounds like Ingress. She is a dear, isn't she?

"And I used to work in the House, back some ago, when I was Bound. I looked after Ingress and her brother Gavroche, and I gave Ingress princess lessons.

"She had quite the grand ball to celebrate last year."

It's odd, to Amy, to reaslize that's only been a year here. Perry proposed at Ingress' last birthday party.

"Really? Well, that's splendid news. Congratulations to you as well!"

She waves her hand in a distracted gesture.

"It's probably good I had them all at once. The more shocked I am, the more likely I am to come out swinging. Or changing diapers, as the case may be."

"That's why I take lessons now. I have to go to school for years and years before I do any real fighting. I'll be okay. My Megwyn will be with me."

"Never. They might get sick or go bad if they fell asleep over there."

Marian giggled unable to stop herself, and very absently beginning to realize coming was probably the best idea, too, as she started eating another cupcake.

"They remind me of tarts, a little," she said after another bite, and some frosting on her cheek. "We have tarts with heavy cream. But not like these."

One not so scary as Bloody Mary, in other words. Just a little bit scary.

"Or, if you don't know ones like that, one about a brave girl."

"She really is," Marian said, with a wistful fondness, which may have betrayed the gratitude which was served by coming even when she originally hadn't wanted to.

"That sounds like quite an interesting undertaking. Working here and with the little ones. Fun, but busy and chaotic. What do you do now?"

"Ing-gess," says Susan, again, reaching her arms out to the other girl.

"I'm very proud of you, Ingress. Today and all days."

Marian expression betrayed that she didn't exactly understand just how that bond worked, especially since most little girls in any world felt they bonded to their horses.

"I shall be glad and you'll have to come show me your moves sometime. What all weapons shall you learn?"

"Dora is not a wicked witch though, is she? This person said she was wicked," Mary announces, "but I think maybe she was only mean instead. It is different. I do not think she was important enough to be wicked."

"It was. I quite thoroughly enjoyed it. And now I chase after my own little one, much of the time," says Amy, with a nod towards the sleeping Susan.

"And I'm the Queen of Ambergeldar. Which doesn't exist on most versions of Earth, I've found, but it's not far from France."

"All of the scary ones I know are very scary," she admits, "but I think I can manage one about a brave girl."

Lucy muses for a minute.

"I could tell you the story of Alambil, the lady of peace."

Marian blushes as the position title, wondering awkwardly for a moment if she should change how their interacting. But she didn't seem to have a problem with how they were conversing...so maybe it was fine?

"I'm from the British Isles in mine," she gave a slightly conspiratorial smile. "And from centuries earlier than more than really two or three people in bar, too. So we have some little quirks in common."

"I know sword quite well, and crossbow a bit. I can do regular archery, and shoot a slingshot. And Spike was teaching me Jeet Kun Do, but he had to go with Beth and Beth Jr. to her world, and he'll be back soon."

"And I hadn't thought of it like that, but it makes a good deal of sense.

She giggles. "No, 'Dora isn't wicked. Who was the person? She doesn't sound too magical at all, if all she can do is change her nail color."

She begins pulling out one of the boas and wrapping it around her shoulders.

Marian nodded through her list, eye brows raising a little at the extensive list. She really was a rather amazing little girl.

"If you'd like help I can give you advice on your archery and perhaps give you some pointers on how to do it while astride and while at a gallop, both can be rather tricky."

There was a conspiratorial smile there.

And maybe some other tricks she'd consider teaching the young girl later if it came up.
