The Princess Birthday Ball

The huge, white tent sprawls on the lawn beside the lake. It has been transfigured there for a very special occasion. A stone walkway leads from the bar to the tent - the pavements are wide enough that ladies' dresses won't trail on the ground as they make their way to the entrance. Over the draped curtains of the entrance way is a large banner which reads "Happy 7th Birthday, Ingress".

Once inside, the honored guests will be in the midst of an enchanted ballroom. There are balloons drifting in bunches from the circular tables lining the sides of the large dance floor. Floating candlabras glow with gentle light from above. There are trees in large ornamental pots interspersed throughout sparkling with fairy lights from real fairies.

One long banquet table is positioned on along the side of the ballroom - there are treats of all description. Little finger sandwiches, chopped up fruit, cookies, cheese and crackers, and other child-friendly h'ors douerves are presented to make sure the dancers are sustained throughout the the party. There are large bowls of ice cream (kept cold with magic)and sundae fixings. Punch bowls of sherbet-flavored drinks await ladling into crystal goblets. But most impressive is the large birthday cake with blue, purple, and pink icing roses festooning it.

Ingress is busy greeting her guests in her gown - a birthday gift from Amy and Susan - but soon she'll be dancing to the music provided by the overlarge Gramophone in the corner, which is playing a wide array of dancing music from waltz standards to court music to pop hits of the 20th century.

Tom, who's pretty tired from the magical effort required to pull this off, is in the background making sure his little girl is having a perfect party, and Princess Amy is helping Ingress in her hostess duties.

Draco was sitting properly at another table. Of course, being used to fancy functions like this, he knew the importance of appearance while dining, and mingling. Every so often, he occasionally had a spot of food.

Tom stops by for a quick chat with his guests. "Draco, how are you? Enjoying the party? I hope it's not too childish for you."

Draco shook his head, "Little, but in some ways, it reminds me of some of Mother and Father's parties that they had when I was younger. Excellent job with it."

"Oh, it was nothing," Tom smiles, knowing full well this show of magic is anything but. "I say, Malfoy - you've been holding out on me. I'd no idea you knew Salazar. I finally met him the other day."

Draco blinked, "Oh, well, yes. I figured it might be difficult to explain since he's from such an earlier time as the rest of us. That's how I had some of those Transfiguration notes. He's been showing me some of what we've lost over the centuries. Brilliant of course, but to be expected of the greatest of the Founders."

"Too bloody right," Tom says, grinning. "Plus he's family. I've never known anyone from my own blood line before. Perhaps you don't know- I'm his heir. The Heir of Slytherin."

Draco shook his head, "No, I didn't know, though there was talk a few years ago on who it might be. The Chamber had been opened again at that time. Don't know if it had happened in your world as well."

He added, "Only found out later that my father had his, well, your diary apparently. Though it ended up at the school that year, and by the time I saw it, it was a mess."

"Of course," Draco simply nodded at that.

He then added, "So your talk with Master Salazar went well then?"

"Brlliantly. He took me back to the castle, and I ended up missing an appointment I was there so long."

Draco nodded, "That would be excellent. The next time I speak with him, I hope he'll have me attend more trips in his world."

Draco nodded, "Of course, and thank you again for the invite." He knew it was pretty much open to everyone, but still best to be polite.

Snow is a vetran of fancy parties, but allows herself to relax somewhat when it's for a seven-year-old. She gives a proper nod to Draco.

"Good evening, Draco."

"It certainly is. Ingress is doing a wonderful job as hostess, and the food is delicious."

A small smile, and she nods to where Millie and Wade are running around, simply having fun.

"And it's nice to have something that isn't as stuffy as the parties I'm used to."

Draco nodded, at the first part. The children running around some got briefly eyed.

"Well, my families' parties were a bit more formal than this. Good and proper ones though."

"Are you royalty as well? I know a great deal of my childhood was spent at formal gatherings I'd have been spared from, were it not for my title."

Just a polite question. Given the percentage of authentic-looking garb around the tent, it's a reasonable guess.

"In a way, though my family is more known for their wealth, power, and connections in my world," Draco remarked with some pride.

"That has advantages over a title, I'm sure. For one, I doubt you've ever had to fear a revolution against you."

She gives him a small smile.

Draco blinked at that, "Not exactly, though you'd be surprised on the number of enemies at times."

"Nearly everyone will gain enemies, one way or another. But a title will invite further problems."

At least in the homelands. Those with money but no titles were able to fund their evacuation without as many responsibilities to attend to before they went.
