Slumber Birthday Party

The tea party room in the House of Arch has been re-arranged. The chests of dress-up clothes are still there, but the large table is gone. In its place are comfy, overstuffed chairs, a long sofa, and several cushions and bean bags scattered about. There is a small table loaded with snacks like crisps, dips, cupcakes, candy, and soda. There's also a veggie tray and cheese and crackers for all of those over age eight.

An old model TV hooked up to VCR is set up with several video cassettes of movies such as The Aristocats, Sleeping Beauty, Shirley Temple classics, and other fun viewing choices.

Tom and Door have been busy escorting guests into the House, if they didn't already have access on their own, and the birthday girl greets them with squeeful happiness. Megwyn is already there, standing by a basket of fresh hay and apples. Even Companions need treats.

She is wearing pajamas with unicorns on them with a fluffy yellow robe on over. She is very excited and feeling very grown up. She's going to stay up all night.

Bright smiles were friendly and also contagious. Which kept Marian grinning, a good thing caused by the party widely.

"It was in the Bar on May Day." There's a moment of smiling and thinking on the memory. "She was enamored with the tea Bar had given me--Lily scented with chocolate flavor--and the fact we both had birthdays in May. You?"

"That quite sounds like Ingress. She is a dear, isn't she?

"And I used to work in the House, back some ago, when I was Bound. I looked after Ingress and her brother Gavroche, and I gave Ingress princess lessons.

"She had quite the grand ball to celebrate last year."

It's odd, to Amy, to reaslize that's only been a year here. Perry proposed at Ingress' last birthday party.

"She really is," Marian said, with a wistful fondness, which may have betrayed the gratitude which was served by coming even when she originally hadn't wanted to.

"That sounds like quite an interesting undertaking. Working here and with the little ones. Fun, but busy and chaotic. What do you do now?"

"It was. I quite thoroughly enjoyed it. And now I chase after my own little one, much of the time," says Amy, with a nod towards the sleeping Susan.

"And I'm the Queen of Ambergeldar. Which doesn't exist on most versions of Earth, I've found, but it's not far from France."

Marian blushes as the position title, wondering awkwardly for a moment if she should change how their interacting. But she didn't seem to have a problem with how they were conversing...so maybe it was fine?

"I'm from the British Isles in mine," she gave a slightly conspiratorial smile. "And from centuries earlier than more than really two or three people in bar, too. So we have some little quirks in common."

Amy has never stood on much ceremony when she didn't have to. And the House of Arch is one of the places she doesn't have to.

"Some of the things I found strangest when first I came here are the things so many people take for granted. Like Ingress' movies. Or lights with neither candles nor flames."

Marian glanced at the strange picture box and nodded, since it was quite strange. Apparently it wasn't magic, but still strange.

"It does seem a rather queer place after the world I'm used to, Milliways seems to have a way of breaking down the barriers of what one expects."

"I certainly found a great namy things here I never expected."

A soft, fond smile.

"I met my husband here. In fact, by the way time is measured here, it's been a year since he proposed, after Ingress' ball last year. Rather longer for us, by the way we measure time. But still, an anniversary."

"Tis amazing! Congratulations," Marian said, toasting her with a half eaten cupcake, which caused her to laugh a little more. "And on the little one as well."

There was some question to the words, after hearing of her caring for children, but Marian was pretty sure from the carrying and cuteness that the child was hers.

"Her name is Susan," says Amy, with another nod towards the little girl. "Thank you."

Susan actually looks very little like her mother, since fairy-given Ordinariness doesn't seem to be heriditary. Unless you see them both smile.

Then they could only be mother and daughter.

"Have you been in Milliways long, Marian?"

Marian looked thoughtful for a moment, at her cupcake, before taking another bite. She chewed and swallowed, getting a little on her as she did, before answering.

"Four months, I'd say now, give or take a week."

If you don't get at least a little frosting on yourself eating a cupcake, you're doing it wrong.

"And can you come and go?" asks Amy, carefully.

Rubbing the icing off with a finger, she licked the finger while nodding.

"Oh, yes. I see my home quite often." Marian grinned suddenly remembering her earlier conversation. "Though apparently Ingress was surprised I had not been to many other people's home worlds."

"Oh, neither have I," says Amy. "It never seems to work out. Though a lot of people have been to my world -- I had friends from Milliways at my wedding, and at Susan's christening. Including Ingress and her family."
